A defensive back from Evans High School in Orlando, Florida, Brandon Alexander walked on to the UCF football team. Graduating as a four-year starter, Alexander was a key player for the 2013 Fiesta Bowl championship team!
We had the opportunity to catch up with our former teammate and friend about his experience and the mindset he had as a WalkOn that still drives him today. “What a walk on means to me is nothing but pure determination and dedication in believing in yourself. You walked on because you believe that you have been overlooked, but can still make a team and contribute to a high level. It’s when someone says that 'you can’t' but in your mind, you will. The mentality that nothing will stand in your way and you will be everything that you set out to be.”
“As a walk on, I was a 4 year starter at UCF. Something that has never been done there. I never took no for an answer and made it clear that I was going to be the hardest worker in the building. As a walk on, you have little to no room for error to make in the classroom or on the field so everything has to be detailed. You have to map out everything that you want to accomplish before you achieve it. Set your mind on a different standard than everyone else because the eyes aren’t on you. YOU HAVE TO MAKE THEM SEE YOU. That’s what a walk on means to me. “
Alexander is a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
Let being an athlete enhance you, not define you.
